Anniversaries
Dear Friends,
th
John and I recently celebrated our 30 Wedding Anniversary with a
party. Having both been married previously, John and I invited
guests from both marriages. This just goes to show that when you
marry, you don't just marry a person you marry a family, and
sometimes two families!
I have always felt lucky that I joined Wareham United Reformed
Church all those years ago. Not only did I find that I was a natural
non-conformist but I also became part of another family: The
Wareham URC family. Our church family is part of the world wide
Church, but our day to day experience is one of worshipping and
serving together with our own church.
The origins of our church in Wareham date from 1662 with the
Prayer Book Rebellion, which split the established church, causing
many dissenting ministers to be thrown out of their parishes. This
was the case in Wareham. However, some Wareham parishioners
followed their minister to form a new congregation. Historically our
church dates from about that time, although there was not an
official church meeting place until the 1672 Act of Indulgence. A
purpose built church was erected in 1694. In 1972 the Wareham
church became part of the newly formed United Reformed Church.
We don't have an exact date for our church anniversary, but we
usually celebrate it around September.
Let us pray that the Holy Spirit will guide us now and into the future
of Wareham United Reformed Church. Happy Anniversary!
Every blessing
Janet
