Our run of different services (from fragrant Iona healing, to
reflective Taizé) was rounded off with a very NOISY Pet Blessing
Service! Revd Kersten and our Elder John Smith, led a cast of
thousands, (well, 10 actually!), through Biblical animal readings,
prayers and poems (including a Dog’s Bedtime Prayer and the
Rainbow Bridge). Our honoured guest was Nigel Mason, Chief
Executive of the Margaret Green Animal Sanctuary, who told us
th
how the charity (currently celebrating its 60 birthday) started, and
how it’s still helping all sorts of animals. Let’s be honest, it was
noisy, there was a puddle on the floor (allegedly a tea spill!), but 10
dogs, 2 cats and a rat, all received an individual blessing, we raised
£120 for Margaret Green and people who don’t always come to
other services felt able to join us.
All in all a moo-ving series of services! Karen
Swanage Food Bank Update
As part of the Jubilee year in the Catholic church, the children of
St Mary’s Primary School had planned a pilgrimage. They had
chosen places within the community that are special to them. Our
Church and Food Bank were two of the places they had chosen.
So on a Thursday afternoon in late May before their Half-term
break, Elizabeth and I greeted a group of year 6 for their short visit.
They had walked from school as part of their pilgrimage, and had a
look around the Worship area and the Food Bank room and gave
us each a prayer and a symbol of their Jubilee Pilgrimage ‘A
Pilgrimage of Hope’ both of which are on the board to the left as
you enter the Church building.
The shelves are short of tins of Soup – which seems an odd
request during this summer weather, but it’s an excellent
standby and stocks are low!
Tins of cold meat
Packets of microwaveable rice
Sweet biscuits - Small jars instant coffee
Many thanks for your support as always ~ Donna
nb. There is a collection box in the vestibule
