WAREHAM UNITED REFORMED CHURCH
My Lord and my God!
The disciples were huddled together, terrified, in the Upper Room.
Their Master had been horribly put to death, and they feared for
their lives. They paid no heed to the women’s testimony that Jesus
was still alive, he had risen from the dead. After all, a woman’s
evidence was worth nothing, was it? Thomas was missing; we
don’t know why.
Suddenly Jesus appeared before them in a locked room! He
greeted them with love, even though they had deserted him.
Moreover, he breathed the Holy Spirit into them. Amazed, they
were at last convinced that the women were right.
After Jesus went away, Thomas returned and the disciples
excitedly told him about Jesus’ appearance: the Master was alive!
Thomas refused to believe them unless he had the proof of
touching Jesus’ wounds himself. So, Jesus came again and this
time Thomas needed no other evidence. His doubts were all
dispelled and he acknowledged Jesus as: “My Lord and my God”.
It’s Easter, Christ has overcome sin and death, and Christians can
say with Thomas:
“My Lord
and my God”.
Wishing you all
peace and joy at
Easter.
