NB Sadly although Bonnie Brown and Richard Bush submitted well in time for entry into News & Views
publication, it would not be printed and distributed until after the events had occurred. It was thought
that it would still be of interest. Eds
Bonnie Brown is going to be exhibiting work in two exhibitions as part of DAW2024
(Dorset Art Weeks) which runs from the 25 MAY - 9 JUNE 2024 at the following galleries:
The Slade Centre with Group 7, The Square, Gillingham SP8 4AY
Opening Times: Daily, except Sunday, 2 May, from 10am - 5pm. The gallery has a cafe with wonderful
coffee and cakes. There is a pay car park behind the gallery.
This is a group exhibition with six other artists, Brian Bishop, Martyn Brewster, Michelle Griffiths, Ursula
Leach, Stephen Powell and Peter Symons. An established group of artists whom I have exhibited and
taught alongside in various art schools for over 30 years. This exhibition will include works on canvas and
paper, sculpture, prints and mounted, unframed works in browsers.

‘The Instinct of Hope’at the Fine Foundation Gallery, Durlston Castle, Lighthouse Road,
Swanage BH19 2JL.
Opening Times: Daily from 10.30am - 5pm. There is a car park and a cafe which serves coffee, snacks and
meals with good vegetarian and vegan options.
This is a group exhibition of selected Dorset artists.
The title and inspiration for the exhibition comes
from a poem by John Clare, "The Instinct of Hope"
and the show features work by artists who are
responding to a distinctive aspect, or elements, of
Dorset's unique landscape.
Bonnie will be invigilating on 1 or 2 days during the
exhibition, so it would be lovely to see any Friends
having a cultural day out in Purbeck.
Please contact her directly for those dates.
----------------------------------------
The motivation for the work that I make is
experiential, made in response to my regular runs
over the Purbeck landscape, all year round and in
all weathers, both day and night with a headtorch.
Moved by the mood and atmosphere of the place,
the elements and the light as it travels across the sea, shore and hills, informed by my witness to the
erosion effects of the climate changes on this special landscape.
Richard Bush reports: It’s Wimborne Folk Festival on 7th, 8th and 9th June, (see note at top of
page) popular weekend to come to for music and dancing. A short piece will be forwarded about the
event and our Meetings involvement. We are exhibiting panels of the Loving Earth Project in Allendale
House, with information about Quakers. Outreach is important, letting people know about us, our love of
peace, simplicity, equality, justice, truth and the environment. Do come along in support! The project is
run locally and jointly by Friends from Wimborne and Poole Meetings, who enjoy craft/creativity and
coffee at the Allendale Centre cafe next door!
