Dear Wave Friends and Supporters in Prayer
Our clubs and activities are in full swing following the start of the academic year. We are
also seeing new opportunities on the horizon to further develop our engagement with
children and young people. For the local church it is an opportunity for us to share our
faith through serving the next generation. How will you join us in bringing the life and light
of Christ to our children and young people’s lives?
Summary of October’s adventures
Remix
During October, we’ve had the pleasure to enjoy an ever-growing mix of musical genres
at Remix. The young people perform a mix of jazz, folk, classical, rock and pop, and are
eager to play together no matter their musical tastes. There have also been a few young
adults who were part of Remix as teenagers who came along to catch up with us and
help support the young people. Each week we see a group of 12-17 young people come
and fill two hours with their musical talent.
Rooted
Table tennis, toasties, tabletop and video games, and a good talk all form part of the
tantalising treats on offer at Rooted each Thursday evening. During October, 6-8 young
people came along to have fun and share their thoughts on what they think their purpose
in life is. These discussions lead to how our relationship with God helps us to live our
lives.
Christian Unions (CU)
At CU we are going through the story of how the Old Testament anticipates a saviour
figure who will come. As we’ve been unpacking the story, we introduce themes that are
woven throughout the OT that all build up the anticipation of Christ. We also highlight
how Jesus is the one who fulfils these anticipations and by the time it is the Christmas
season we will tie them all together. The Swanage School (TSS) CU is regularly attend-
ed by 4 young people and Purbeck School (PS) ranges from 10 to a filled classroom.
Mentoring
Hannah has moved one of her days at TSS to support PS through mentoring. This
means she spends three days at TSS and two at PS. TSS is in the process of advertising
for a new Designate Safeguarding Lead (DSL) as Mandy Sands is retiring. Mandy has
been a great support of The Wave’s mentoring service she will be greatly missed!
*Potential new initiatives*
There are several new opportunities we are exploring to engage with children and young
people in our local community. Some involve running clubs to build relationships with
children who are at the top end of primary and start of secondary school. Another is look-
ing at developing a club for older young people aged 14-17 in partnership with Swanage
and Herston Football Club. One of the most valuable and impactful resources for the
children and young people are the adults who contribute to the clubs. People help shape
a culture and environment for children to flourish in and if you would like to be part of
this, please get in touch! Contact Berno on 07341 300594 or email ber-
no@waveministry.org.uk.
