The 112@112 – an Invitation
to go for growth
Did you know that our legal
restriction in the Sanctuary is a
maximum of 110 people on the
ground floor, and 60 in the
gallery? That’s our capacity for a single meeting – almost the
clichéd, “One Hundred and Eighty,” like the maximum score in
Darts!
This limit is helpful because it is non-negotiable. (It’s to do with
Fire Exits.)
It gives us a useful number to build a vision around: 110… or with
Statler and Waldorf up in the balcony (if you remember The
Muppets), 112. 112@112.
Our postal address has become a useful brand to hang our events
on such as “Coffee@112”. What if we were to extend this to a
vision of 112 church members@112? Is that so hard to believe or
imagine? We know what it looks like from several events this
year.
How could we grow to a congregation of 112?
What we could do is adopt three words as a strategy: “Go For
Growth.” Together with the catchphrase of, “The 112@112,” this
could capture our imagination and motivate us to expand.
What steps would we take?
There are two key movements forward we would benefit from.
Firstly, to realise that leadership needs to be from the local church
for the local church. This means equipping all who want to lead
now and in the future with the tools that will make leading a
pleasure. It also means supporting the leadership – something we
are becoming excellent at.
Secondly, we will benefit from getting into the habit of inviting even
more people to our social events and activities. This means
Coffee@112, craft afternoons with CUChooseday, warm spaces
over Winter, open events such as, “Any Questions Swanage,”
