Advent

Advent is the time of preparation and looking forward to all that
Christmas means. We will once more celebrate the birth, the
coming of Jesus Christ.

For me it also a time of contemplation , of memories.

I recall so clearly the anticipation I felt as a child. The Hope that I
c
would get the longed for gift, the carol services, stretching out the
toes to find the stocking on the end of the bed, the smells of
Christmas …. pine needles and roast dinner and home made
paper chains. Then the wonder of Christmas day.

Not quite so long ago there was the great Joy of preparing for a

family Christmas. Joy interspersed with some panic...cards to
write, presents to wrap, expectations to fulfil and again carol
services, often five or six. We were busy getting ready for
Christmas day.

Then came the Peace and enjoyment of being two. Looking back

with gladness on happy happy times whilst making new memories
and quietly preparing for Christmas Day.
And throughout, always, the strengthening knowledge that the
promise, the Blessing of Advent is fulfilled in the birth of Jesus
Christ, bringing with that birth great Love.

So as the Advent candles are lit they not only bring memories but

they remind us of Hope ,Joy, Peace, a Promise fulfilled and most
of all of the Love that surrounds us in all we do. As Advent brings
us to Christmas Day we celebrate.
