Graham Neads sends us his latest reflection on a hymn.
He leadeth me! O blessed thought!
O words with heav’nly comfort fraught!
Whate’er I do, where’re I be ,
Still ‘tis God’s hand that leadeth me!!
He leadeth me, He leadeth me,
By His own hand He leadeth me:
His faithful follower I would be,
By His own hand He leadeth me.
Lord, I would clasp Thy hand in mine,
Nor ever murmur nor repine,
Content, whatever lot I see,
Since ‘tis Thy hand that leadeth me!
He leadeth me, He leadeth me,
By His own hand He leadeth me:
His faithful follower I would be,
By His own hand He leadeth me.
And when my task on earth is done,
When, by Thy grace, the vict’ry’s won,
E’en death’s cold wave I will not flee,
Since God through Jordan leadeth me!
He leadeth me, He leadeth me,
By His own hand He leadeth me:
His faithful follower I would be,
By His own hand He leadeth me.
If I was to ask you what Psalm comes into your mind as you read
these words, what would you say? Well, I’m almost certain the
vast majority of people - church goers or not - would say the 23rd
Psalm! Though, in today’s world, with little religious instruction at
schools the number of non-church goers would be a lot less.
However, a number of well-known singers - Christian and non-
Christian - have used it as part of their repertoire.
