Purbeck Village Quire sing: ‘Jesus shall reign’
This is a paraphrase of Psalm 72 with words by Isaac Watts. Born
in Southampton in 1674 at a time when not everyone could read,
Psalms were put into colloquial verse to enable congregations to
memorise them. Still sung today – 300 years later. We sing it to an
old West Gallery tune called ‘Gibraltar’ composed by W J White an
early C19th composer from St Albans. We hope you enjoy it as
much as we do singing it.
Hymn Medley:
I stand amazed at the presence
Of Jesus the Nazarene,
and wonder how He could love me,
a sinner, condemned, unclean.
How marvellous! How wonderful!
and my song shall ever be:
How marvellous! How wonderful!
Is my Saviour’s love for me!
When with the ransomed in glory
His face I at last shall see,
‘twill be my joy through the ages
to sing of His love for me.
How marvellous! How wonderful!
and my song shall ever be:
How marvellous! How wonderful!
Is my Saviour’s love for me!
