“Do Some Good by Eating Lunch!”
With the aim of supporting Global Justice Now and Christian
Aid (via Commitment for Life), we hoped our posters around
town would attract local people to join us for a simple soup,
bread and cheese Lent Lunch on Saturday 8 March.
                                                                 th

We weren’t disappointed! Around 32 people took us up on our
offer including friends from the local Anglican Churches as well
as residents who are not Church-goers. As always, whenever
there is the vaguest offer of food, our own congregation steps
up to the plate (literally!), either through making, donating or
partaking in a lovely time of food and fellowship!

       A choice of 6 yummy home-made soups (Jerry’s Spicy Peanut, Liz’s Broc & Stilton, and Felicity’s
Minestrone with chard were particular stars), all served with crispy baguette or seedy Italian bread
and some generous slices of 4 types of cheese, washed down with a nice cuppa! The dogs
present enjoyed the feast too – just look at Enzo’s contented posture!

Most importantly, people were incredibly generous and we managed to raise £270 for the above
causes, which will of course, be doubled by our Wessex Synod! We pray it will be used to alleviate
suffering and will draw people to Jesus, now that Governments around the world seem to be
withdrawing aid from the most needy.

We hope that our grant-funded kitchen refurb in May will enable us to make events like this much
more frequent to benefit our local community. We hope you’ll join us for a SOUPer time!!
                                                                          Karen
