From the Leprosy Mission
Have you ever stopped to think about the journeys the Lord has led
you on? Where they began, and ended? How they made a
difference - not just for you, but for those around you too?
Over 150 years ago, two people set out on an incredible
journey. Wellesley and Alice Bailey left their home in Ireland, and
travelled to Bihar, India. Life there was marked by incredible
hardship. But amid the daily struggle for survival, they encountered
something that many thought a fate worse than death. Leprosy.
With no cure, the disease caused permanent disability and dreadful
ulcers. Families were torn apart as people were cast out and left to
survive on their own.
Wellesley and Alice Bailey didn’t stand by in the face of
suffering. And so, after praying, they founded The Leprosy
Mission. Their legacy is still felt across the world today. Because
they followed God’s call, thousands have been cured of
leprosy. Families have been reunited, and communities
transformed. But the disease still exists. And people still need
your help.
When he was just 7, patches appeared on Kamal’s body. His
worried mum, Premila, took him to a traditional healer. But instead
of getting medicine, she was told her son was cursed. Can you
imagine how Kamal felt as people stared and whispered behind his
back?
Eventually, Premila suspected it could be leprosy and took Kamal
to Anandaban Hospital. A Leprosy Mission counsellor welcomed
them with open arms. They gently confirmed the diagnosis, and
placed the cure in Premila’s hands.
Because of compassionate supporters, Kamal was treated in time
to prevent disability. But many more like him still need the cure.
