Children’s Traditional Folk Dance Group
Purbeck Village Quire:
Singers and Instrumentalists who enjoy meeting together to
perform ‘West Gallery’ and folk music.
Up to about 1850 the singing in most churches and chapels
was led by a small group of singers and a band, from a gallery
at the west end of the church.
The Purbeck Village Quire, founded by Rollo Woods in 1989,
features many Hymns, Carols and Psalms known to have
been composed and sung in the local
Purbeck villages.
Their psalm tune this morning comes from Kent, and was
composed by Thomas Clark in 1833. He was a shoemaker
from Canterbury, who also composed the hymn tune usually
associated with ‘Ilkla Moor Baht’at’.
Morena:
Morena Dance Company is a Slovak folk-dance group set up
in 2001 and offer colourful, energetic, fast and vibrant
performances based on Slovak dance traditions.
