The noose is
tightening... all
around the world
André Baruch
President, Transport Alliance Australia
he last three months have proven to be very challenging
for Uber. The cracks in the foundation are starting to show
and you could even say that it is the start of the downhill
T spiral.
Transport for London (TfL) revoked Uber's licence in November 2019
after finding that more than 14,000 trips were given by drivers who had
faked their identity on the Uber app. London's Mayor, Sadiq Khan,
denounced the company as "not fit and proper". This is the second
time in two years that Uber has been found "not fit and proper" to be
operating in London. One of the drivers implicated had his licence
revoked when he was caught distributing child pornography, a
spokesman for TfL said.
Even though Uber emphatically states that this and other safety issues
have been addressed, Transport for London does not have confidence
that similar issues will not reoccur in the future. But Uber has once
again been allowed to continue while their appeal is being considered.
Have you ever heard anything so crazy. The business has been
deemed "not fit and proper" yet it is still able to operate - where's the
sense in that?
January 2020 sees Birmingham, UK, denying Uber a new licence until
the outcome of its appeal against the banning order by TfL is known.
Very sensible.
