all in

family
SINCE THE ORIGINAL X5’S DEBUT in 1999, BMW’s X Series of sport utility/activity vehicles
and crossovers have stood as the apogee of the company’s versatility. While the company
had proven its competence in the form of luxurious daily commuters of all sizes, sporty
convertibles, practical wagons, and a cabinet full of motorsports trophies, the idea of a
BMW SUV was still met with skepticism.
Nary a doubter can be found two decades later, and the X lineup has grown to include
options for drivers of any proclivity. From stylish city runabouts to luxurious continental
cruisers—and even dyed-in-the-wool track assassins—the X family truly offers something
for everyone.
When it comes to efficiency and affordability, the X1 and X2 provide both in spades—
without sacrificing style or technology. The upright X1 is the more practical choice with
a squared-off rear hatch housing more than 58 cubic feet of cargo space. The X2 trades
angles for curves, fitting for the more sporty option of the two. In addition, the X2 has
been bestowed with real influence from BMW’s skunkworks division in the form of a
standard M Sport Differential, and optional 20” wheels and M Sport brakes.
