Z’EST LA VIE
FOR A MAJORITY OF THE PAST DECADE,
MINI has pursued a slightly more mundane
manner. The number of customizable aspects
to their models have declined, though the
amenities and convenience have expanded. In
short, BMW’s influence has permeated into the
marque’s DNA with somewhat mixed results.
However, when it comes to the 2022 lineup, it
appears someone at MINI has finally realized
it’s possible to lavishly decorate your cake,
and eat it too. The newest flavor added to the
mix? Several new shades of personality.
The slightly tweaked front and rear bumpers
of the Cooper, Cooper S, Convertible, and
JCW iterations can now be bathed in Rooftop
Gray, Island Blue, or the spectacularly named
Zesty Yellow.
Of course, attempting to pin a single hue to
this particular strand of pigment is a bit of
a Sisyphean undertaking. The shades alter
themselves per the light’s influence. Under
the bright rays of South Florida sunshine the
paint presents like a highlighter—broadly
contrasting against the grays of street
pavement and concrete columns. Under the
tree-lined shade of residential streets the
color softens to a honeydew green; not as
bright, though still distinctly unique in a
world of neutrals.
In brief, it is the most MINI of the MINI color
palette—perfect for those who expect their car
to be more than an appliance that evaporates
into the background of their daily commute.
The 2022 MINI is once again meant for those
who want to live life with a little extra zest.
