The COVID-19 pandemic made 2020 a very challenging and disruptive year. It was
a year that upended all we thought we knew about work, technology, processes,
and profits. Interestingly, it was a year that also demonstrated the intrinsic
opportunities hidden in challenges and showed the power of resilience in the
Waltersmith family. The challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic caused us
to rethink our business plan and strategies for 2020 and adapt to new realities. The
dip in crude oil prices forced us back to the drawing board to explore and fashion
out new business strategies.
Globally, the world faced unprecedented health challenges as hospitals and
medical personnel were stretched beyond human capacity. In Nigeria, the state of
the health care sector was spotlighted by the emergence of the pandemic and it
was clear that we were unprepared for the magnitude of the COVID-19 health

crisis.
At Waltersmith, the challenges allowed us to pause, reflect and adapt. Our culture
of connecting with the human nature of holding hands, strong leadership and

employee engagement were critical factors that contributed immensely to our
resilience and adaptability.
As we came to terms with the pandemic realities, we immediately put in place
adequate measures to guarantee firstly the health and safety of our employees,
