BiTS: I do remember the gig in Exeter, and I remember thinking that he wasn't quite up to scratch.
I'm pretty sure you did most of the work.
MM: Yeah, he was, really, you know, not in good shape and bless him, he knew he wasn’t, and he was
trying.
BiTS: Yeah, I understand. That's awful.
MM: There were moments in the dressing room, and a couple of those, where he was crying
beforehand, saying I don't remember what I've got to do. I said, don't worry, Red, we just go out there.
I'll follow you, wherever you go, I'll follow you. I said, if you feel that you can't sing, just tell me and
I'll take over. So it was really difficult and after three or four gigs, I sent him home.
BiTS: Must have been very worrying for you.
MM: It was awful. We had a few quite nasty moments. I had to get him into a health centre at one
point. Yeah, it was not good. We were checking into hotels and then one, I think it was in Exeter actually
that the receptionist when she’d taken him to, his room, called me in my room and said, do you want
me to call an ambulance?
BiTS: Oh, blimey.
MM: The thing is with Red, you know, he was a tough man, so it took a lot for him to go down.
BiTS: Oh well.
MM: It was very sad. It was very sad. The tour before that was fantastic. Sorry, let’s stop on Red now.
[laughing].
BiTS: Okay Michael, we’ll leave it there. Thank you very much indeed for speaking to me. Absolutely
terrific talking to you. And let me just repeat what I said before, I think this is an absolutely terrific
album, potentially an award-winning album in my view. I listen to enough music to be able to say that
and congratulations on doing it, because I think it's actually a wonderful project.
MM: Thank you very much. I really appreciate what you said there. I hope I haven't babbled too much,
but that's the only way for you to have enough to write, you know? But yes, thank you. I really
appreciate that. Thank you. And thank you for all the support over time with your show
BiTS: Michael, I won't take any more of your time. Thank you very much indeed for talking to me..
MM: A pleasure anytime. You've got my number now, so anytime.
BiTS: I have indeed. You look after yourself. Bye.
MM: Thank you. Take care, Ian, and thank you very much.
