BREAK OUT THE

                                                                   POPCORN !!

After reading my newly purchased books for a few days and

needing a bit of eye rest, I decided the best thing to do was
turn on the television!! Of course, there’s nothing on ‘normal’
TV. at the moment other than doom and gloom, so YouTube it was.

I had no idea of the amount of blues music and related documentaries available, mostly around one
hour running time. There are also short (roughly fifteen to twenty minutes in length) clips containing
    brief interviews or performances.

Us ‘older’ blues fans will have seen some of the footage before of course, although I’d not seen the
film of Hop Wilson, only the still photo of whom obviously came from here. So, break out the popcorn,
pour your favourite tipple, put your feet up and grab a few hours of worthwhile viewing.

DOWN HOME MUSIC:- A Journey Through The Heartland 1963

    – mostly filmed in black and white by German film maker Dietrich Wawzyn, in German with English
subtitles. Includes…Jesse Fuller, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Black Ace, Whistling Alex Moore, Hop Wilson,

Rev. Louis Overstreet and many more.

DOWN HOME MUSIC:- The Story Of Arhoolie Records

     - excellent introduction.

    SACRED STEEL

     – focus on pedal steel guitar players in the church, mind blowing!!! If only the meetings I go to were

    like this.

    BLUES AND THE ALLIGATOR

    – The story of Alligator Records.

    BLUES AMERICA

    – as seen on BBC at one time, worth a re-visit to see colour film of Robert Lockwood and Sonny Boy
    in the early 1950’s.

    THE GREATNESS OF LIGHTNIN’ HOPKINS

    – includes Jimmie Vaughan, B.B King.

RY COODER TALKS ABOUT BIG JOE WILLIAMS

    – really interesting and fairly recent, Ry also plays and sings.

Some of these are also available on DVD to purchase from Amazon and other outlets, should you
wish to have them in your collection.
