BiTS: Yeah, her father is in charge of her, I know that.
GG: Other British people, Martin Howley. I’m quite good friends with Martin. I've
interviewed him quite a few times. Mark Harrison, his new album is great.
BiTS: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
GG: Just working my way through this list here. I'm hugely influenced in my guitar
playing by Bert Jansch. It would be nice to have him do a live session, but that's not
going to happen, obviously.
BiTS: [Laughing] That would be difficult.
GG: Yeah, and I try and support local bands
as well. I've played music, if a local band’s
got a new album out, I'll play tracks from
those as well. There's a band up here called
The Main Line, and their new album “Cobalt
Blue” is really good and it's been in the
charts for the last two months of the
Independent Blues Broadcaster's
Association.
BiTS: Yes.
GG: My friend, Sister Suzie, she's got an
album by Sister Suzie & The Right Band
called “Honestly”, but she’s also in a duo
with Andy Twyman and they’re called
Nothing in Rambling, and that’s like
Memphis Minnie kind of blues, which is
Sister Suzie great.
BiTS: Yes, that’s terrific stuff. I know that
well. Yes, absolutely fabulous. Absolutely fabulous. And tell me, you're still getting
live gigs, I take it. Are you?
GG: Well, I've retired now. I'm 71 and I had a mini stroke a couple of months ago,
so I’ve taken the step to retire from gigs.
BiTS: Oh, did you now, I didn't know that?
GG: Yeah, I did. But as you mentioned early on, I've opened for and played with quite
a few people, really. But the last support slot I did was for the Cinelli brothers . I
think those guys are great.
BiTS: Yes.
GG: And just before my mini stroke, or just over two months ago, I played acoustic
guitar with Emma Wilson at a small gig in Durham, which was really good.
