THE BiTS INTERVIEW: Trevor Steger
Trevor “Babajack” Steger is an award winning acoutic blues artist who
lives on a a narrow boat on the Avon river near Stratford.
Living and working in the 1990s with the Shona people in
Mashonaland East Province, Zimbabwe, Steger's first son, Jack was
born. Shona custom is that the father takes his son's name, so Steger
became known as 'Babajack' (the Father of Jack).
He has just released a new album and Ian McKenzie spoke to him
about it.
TBS: Hello, Ian.
BiTS: Trevor, hello. How nice to
speak to you again. What I want
to do, of course, is talk to you
about the new album which I
have listened to with a great deal
of pleasure. I think it's absolutely
fabulous, but let's leave that for
a minute or two. You recorded
this thing on your own boat. Tell
me something about the boat,
first of all.
TBS: Well, it's a narrow boat
called Sirius, as in the North Star.
We've lived on it for eight years
now. Eight years last month, on
the River Avon, Stratford, Avon
that runs from Stratford to
Tewksbury and we're about two
hours upstream from
Tewkesbury. Yes, it's a 55-foot
narrowboat, 6-foot 10 wide, 55 foot long.
