BiTS INTERVIEW: Gary Grainger
Gary Grainger was the 2012 British Blues Award winning host of The
Blues Show on BishopFM (www.bluesshow.wordpress.com).
Some people people confuse him with the Gary Grainger who played
guitar with Rod Stewart (no, he isn’t that Gary Grainger!).
The ‘real’ Gary’s musical apprenticeship began in the working men’s
clubs of the North East of England in the early seventies where, among
other stories too wild to tell, he supported Bill Haley & The Comets.
Ian McKenzie spoke to him on the telephone to learn more>
GG: Good afternoon.
BiTS: Gary, hello there. It's Ian McKenzie.
GG: Hello, how you doing?
BiTS: I'm doing very well
indeed. Thank you. How about
you?
GG: I'm not bad for an old bloke,
yes [chuckling].
BiTS: [Chuckling] I like that. I'll
tell you what I want to do, I want
to talk to you about your career,
your music, and maybe the
future as well. Is that okay?
GG: That’s fine. You fire away.
BiTS: Yes, okay. Let's make a
start. Tell me something about
yourself. Where were you born,
bred and all the rest of it, please?
GG: Born and bred in Hartlepool
in the northeast of England, an awful long time ago. I escaped after about 20 years.
Moved to Teesdale and Edinburgh and points between.
BiTS: Have you had a proper job, so to speak, a career of any kind?
