I had a girl once, I was going to marry in 3 months, and she got shot through the head by
mistake. A guy shooting another guy shot her through the head and that is what stopped me
marrying. New Orleans’s a pretty violent place. You know, she had a Christmas present for me
what I never did get. She had wrote and told me she had a Christmas present for me, and when
I got back she was dead. It’s things like that that make America the worst place in the world.
They are savages – they don’t understand nothing. They think they are great people, they don’t
have no education. They think murder is the only way to get by. That’s what they live on,
murder. But it don’t bother me, ‘cos I’ll never go back.

This is a photo of one of my daughters, she sang with me to 3000 people in Switzerland. Here’s
a photo of me in 1940 – I don’t look no different but I was a rough cat in them days. Here’s my
uncle Jeanette Dupree, he died when he was 111 years old, he was a piano player on a
    riverboat.

Hell, I wonder what he’s thinking about me – the first Englishman in our family.
