instrumental ‘Jumpin’ With Leon’, is a splendid hip-swinger with mellow guitar, horns and
jumpin’ piano and ‘Black Bottom Blues’, hauntingly slow burns like John Lee Hooker.
‘Let The Kids Dance’, is a delightful fifties, swinging floor duster and ‘Right On Time’, is also a
highly enjoyable, hip swinging piano, accordion and guitar twanging, rockabilly floor duster.
Highly recommended!

Buddy Guy—Ain’t Done With The Blues—RCA/Silvertone
Records
At the age of 89, Buddy, is one of the old guard, a bastion of the
true blues, a legend that won’t desert his post. Here he is assisted
(or paid homage to) by notable artists such as; Tom Hambridge
producer/writer/drummer, guitarists Joe Walsh, Joe Bona-
massa, Peter Frampton, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Rob
McNelley. Max Abams on saxophone, Kevin McKendree, Chuck
Leavell and Mike Rojas on keyboards, Steve Patrick on trumpet,
and the bass work comes from Glen Worf and former Jeff Beck
bassist, Tal Wilkenfeld.
The eighteen numbers open with ‘Hooker Thing’, Buddy and a lone guitar. That’s followed by
‘Been There Done That’, a crisp, raw, rocking blues tale of Buddy’s life.
‘Blues Chase The Blues Away’, is a comfortable, honky tonk piano-led, rolling Chicago blues and
we are treated to a lively fun-funk groove on ‘Where U At?’. ‘Blues On Top’, is a satisfyingly
depressing, melancholy piano and guitar slow blues. A contrast comes with the bouncing,
jumping ‘I Got Sumpin For You’, which is definitely a floor duster and ‘How Blues Is That’ is a
guitar wailing classic Chicago blues.
‘Dry Stick’, is a sage wisdom-driven slow blues and the enticingly jolly shuffle ‘It Keeps Me
Young’, perks you up. ‘Love On A Budget’, is a burning tale of mean spirited love. The Blind Boys
of Alabama are the backbone of the upbeat gospel of ‘Jesus Loves The Sinner’.
‘Upside Down’ is Buddy’s enticing horn driven grooving funker view on this strange modern
world, whilst ‘One From Lightnin’’ is a short sweet acoustic taster on the majesty of ‘Lightnin’
Hopkins.
‘I Don’t Forget’, is stark, raw reminder of the brutality of southern segregation and the sweet
rolling and jerking ‘Trick Bag’ is just fine. The laid back rolling ‘Swamp Poker’ has an enticing
Cajun feel. Finally, Buddy delivers heartfelt and sensitive renditions of ‘Send Me Some Loving’,
and ‘Talk To Your Daughter’.
What else but Highly Recommended!
