USING THE O*NET INTEREST PROFILER

The O*NET Interest Profiler is a useful tool to help you identify your work-related interests. It is part of the
O*NET Career Exploration Tools of the US Department of Labor/Employment and Training Administration
TM
(USDOL/ETA). This online questionnaire contains a list of 60 work activities that people do in various
occupations. For each activity, you indicate how you would like doing that type of work on the following
rating scale:
Strongly Dislike — Dislike — Unsure — Like — Strongly Like

Go to mynextmove org/explore/ip and take the O*NET Interest Profiler As you answer the
questions, don’t think about the skills or education needed to do each type of work or the salary
for the occupation Just think about whether you would enjoy the work There are five question
screens You need to complete all twelve questions on a screen to move to the next one When
you finish, you will receive a Score Report Print it out if you can, or write down the results, and
bring it to class We’ll talk about the results in the next lesson
(As you do the activity, make a list of any words that you didn’t know and had to look up in a
dictionary As a class, discuss the meanings of the unfamiliar words on students’ lists )
