REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS - SERVICE PACKAGE GRANTS
The advancement of medical knowledge through b a s i c , clinical, translational, applied, and population health research is a core mission of Children’s Medical Center Dallas. In support of this mission, Children’s HealthSM is pleased to make available Service Package Grants (SPG) for biostatistical, scientific/grant writing, and clinical research support. This mechanism will not support principal investigator salaries, travel, lab supplies/reagents, equipment, software, etc.
This program provides initial funding for investigators conducting innovative clinical, translational applied, and population health research projects, with the expectation that this early investment will result in sustainable extramural funding. The intent of the funding is to provide support for fellow or early career investigators who do not have other funding available to them via grants (intramural or extramural), start-up, UT Southwestern Foundation or Children’s Health Foundation funds.
The SPG gives funding priority to fellows and early career investigators who display the talent associated with career success and who have identified the environmental resources and interdisciplinary collaborations that will make this success more likely. The career path of the applicant and his or her ability to develop interdisciplinary collaborations will be considered in the selection process at par with the scientific merit of the proposed project. How the project supports the mission of Children’s Health will also be considered.
These awards are designed to (1) enable preliminary work and generation of pilot data on research projects or (2) support preliminary work needed to assist in the design of the study, develop a tool needed for the study, or test the feasibility of the proposal. Funds are available for clinical, translational, and population health research involving human subjects, human tissue, or bioinformatics.
Service Package Grant awards are up to a max of $5,000. Larger proposals must apply for the Mission Grant or CCRAC Grant.
Eligibility: SPG recipients must be fellows or early career investigators. For physicians, this is defined as individuals who have an Instructor or Assistant Professor appointment. For nurses, allied health professionals, and others, this is defined as individuals who have completed a research doctorate in the previous five years and who have a Postdoctoral, Instructor, or Assistant Professor appointment. All fellows must designate a mentor on their application.
Current Mission or CCRAC grant recipients are not eligible to receive a SPG during the active funding period.
Investigators can apply for the SPG and other Children’s Health funding mechanisms simultaneously. The application must state the type of funding that is pending.
