protect themselves from their enemies?
Let’s Understand (Study the Concept)
KEY TERMS
• proboscis - is an elongated nose or snout
• carnivore - meat eater
• omnivore – both meat and plant eater
• herbivore - plant eater
• insectivore- insect eater
Animals have body parts like human beings. Each part has specific
function. Many animals spend most of their time searching for food.
Some animals use their paws, claws, mouthparts like beaks and
teeth.Others use their sticky tongue, movable jaws and sucky tubes. Mouth parts of
some insects, like bees, have long thin tongues which they use to get the nectar.
The butterfly has a long sucking tube mouthpart called proboscis. Frogs use their
long sticky tongue to catch food such as flies and mosquitoes. Giraffes can get the
leaves with the use of long tongues to pull off and eat them.
There are different kinds of beaks, feet, for getting or eating food.
Animals having the same mouth parts eat the same kind of food .Animals like horses
and carabaos with flat teeth eat grass or plants, animals with sharp pointed teeth
eat meat or other animals and these are animals which have both of these kinds of
teeth.
