Carl smooths the sand on his palm.
CARL SAGAN (CONT'D)
But the number of stars we can see
is only the tiniest fraction of the
number of stars that are.
Carl throws the sand into the air. In slow motion they turn
into stars.
CARL SAGAN (CONT'D)
The total number of stars in the
Universe is larger than all the
grains of sand on all the beaches
on the planet Earth.
The front door clunks open.
MUM (O.S.)
(German accent)
Sorry I’m late. There’s a nasty
virus doing the rounds and people
have been dropping like flies.
WOLFGANG ejects the tape, and puts it back on the pile. ‘Hartbeat’ comes on screen.
MUM comes in, 1ooking weary and bedraggled. GORGEOUS
She’s in her late thirties and looks tired.
Life as a single working mother is taking its toll on her. Originally from a small town in GERMANY, she is feeling a
long way from home.
Under her coat she wears a NURSE’S UNIFORM.
MUM (CONT'D)
(German accent)
How was school?
WOLFGANG
(not looking up)
Okay.
MUM
I see you’ve eaten.
WOLFGANG’s tongue searches around his mouth, finds Peanut
Butter, honey and crumbs.
She ruffles his hair and heads to the kitchen. Pours herself
a glass of wine.
