INT. WOLFGANG’S HOUSE. HALL - DAY
We hear a key in the door. It opens and WOLFGANG comes in,
steps on the brown envelopes on the door mat, drops his
backpack on the floor and kicks off his shoes.
The house is EMPTY.
It has a just moved in feel. Several PACKING BOXES, waiting
to be unpacked, evidence of a recent move.
INT. WOLFGANG’S HOUSE. KITCHEN - DAY
All alone, WOLFGANG carves a thick slice from a loaf.
Drops it into an old TOASTER.
Opens a jar of IMBER HONEY.
On the wall hangs a small chalkboard with a list of ‘Things
to do’ scrawled on it.
Call AA. Pay Gas. Electricity. Plumber. Hang Paintings. A
Rota of Day and Night Work Shifts.
Numerous unpaid Bills hang in a Bulldog clip.
INT. WOLFGANG’S HOUSE. LIVING ROOM - DAY GORGEOUS
Several oil PAINTINGS on large canvas lean against the wall, waiting to be hung.
A threadbare armchair. A printed cotton shawl draped over a
sofa. A low Indian coffee table.
WOLFGANG turns on a Hitachi TV and VHS combo.
A pile of home recorded VHS TAPES with handwritten labels,
2001. STARMAN. MAROONED, he takes one called - COSMOS.
WOLFGANG curled up on the sofa eating HONEY and PEANUT BUTTER
on TOAST, watching his favourite tape, an old recording of
CARL SAGAN’s COSMOS.
ON SCREEN: Waves crash on a sandy beach.
CARL SAGAN
A handful of sand contains about
ten thousand grains, more than the
total number of stars we can see
with the naked eye on a clear
night.
