MUM
Oh, I saw Mrs Harvey yesterday.
You’ve worked wonders on her. She
was singing your praises.
DAVE
That’s kind of her. She’s
surprisingly strong for her age.
He smiles at WOLFGANG, who looks back to his plate.
DAVE (CONT'D)
What part of Germany are you from?
MUM
Fallingbostal. It’s a tiny little
town where nothing ever happens.
Not so different from living here.
(beat) Have you been to Germany?
DAVE
Only once, many years ago. A Stag
Night in Munich that I’d rather
forget.
WOLFGANG sucks a strand of Spaghetti as MUM and DAVE talk. GORGEOUS
DAVE (CONT'D)
Did you see that documentary last
night? The one about bees.
MUM
No, was it good?
DAVE
Amazing. The way they communicate
is mind-blowing. When a bee finds
some nectar, it tells the other
bees the exact position of the
flower by performing this sort of
‘dance’. But because it’s based on
the relative position of the Sun,
which is constantly moving, it has
to keep recalculating and adjusting
the dance.
WOLFGANG sees MUM’s glossed lips. DAVE’s raised eyebrow. His
hand gestures. Smile. White teeth. MUM’s earring glinting in
the candlelight. DAVE’s face distorted through a wine glass.
