Tips for Your College Search:
• Browse the college’s website, campus blogs, and social media pages.
• Take notes or write down a list of all the questions you have about academic programs and campus life after your search.
• Review a map of campus and its surrounding areas. Search for restaurants, grocery stores, and other attractions.
• Participate in a virtual or in-person campus tour.
• During the tour, learn about the admissions process and financial aid opportunities. Ask questions like:
• When is the application due?
• What scholarship opportunities are available?
• Ask your questions about academics:
• How do you declare or change a major?
• Are students usually able to take their first-choice courses?
• What percentage of students finish their degree in four years?
• Are tutoring services available?
• Is there an honors program?
• How do AP credits transfer?
• Ask the admissions staff to set up a meeting with a professor in your intended area of study. Ask them questions like:
• What is the size and structure of classes within that major?
• How are students prepared for employment after graduation?
• Ask the admissions staff to set up a meeting with a current student. Ask questions like:
• What do you wish you had known going into your first year?
• What is a typical school day like for you?
• Review your notes from these meetings and tours and follow up with admissions staff if you have any additional questions.
• Discuss your financial aid plan with your parent or support person.
• Come up with a plan and timeline for applying to the colleges you like.
