Abstract. Shrimp is the prime commodity of Indonesian fishery exports with the largest
export volume and value compared to other fishery commodities. Therefore, shrimp farming
becomes a business activity that is very attractive and attracts people's attention because of the
high potential of foreign exchange generated. Aceh Province is one of the biggest shrimp
producing regions in Indonesia. Shrimp commodities that are the mainstay of the province of
Aceh are tiger shrimp and vaname shrimp. The population of Aceh approximately 55% depends
on the fisheries sector both directly and indirectly. This study examines the role of research and
technology in the development of shrimp culture and its impact on the economy of post-tsunami
farmers in Aceh Province. The purpose of this study is to determine whether there is a role for
research and technology in shrimp farming, analyze what technology research results are
utilized and their impact on improving farmer productivity and economy. The data collection
process was obtained from interviews with 47 farmers in 4 districts that were central to shrimp
production in Aceh. Interview material obtained was transcribed and analyzed using qualitative
descriptive methods and path analysis. The results of this study can be concluded that the
occurrence of partially mediation is the occurrence of partial mediation between research and
technology variables on shrimp production and the economy of shrimp farmers.
