Abstract. Forage, either grass or legume is the main feed for ruminants. Alfalfa has spread and
is known worldwide because it has a high nutrient content and stable productivity, called queen
of forages. With those reasons, many are interested in developing alfalfa (vegetative and
generative), included Indonesia as tropical country. This study aimed to determine the
generative growth characteristics of alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) in the second regrowth with
the addition of dolomite and lighting duration. The study was conducted in a greenhouse
Laboratory of Forage and Pasture Sciences, Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Gadjah
Mada. This study used a Completely Randomized Factorial pattern design and if significant
continued with the Least Significant Different (LSD) test, with the addition of dolomite 3 level
                              were D0 = 0 ton/ha (control), D1 = 6 ton/ha, D2 = 12 tons/ha. The duration of lighting 3 were
                              C0 = 12 hours (control), C1 = 14 hours, C2 = 16 hours. The variables observed were the first
time of flowering, the percentage of flowering plants, the first time of flowering, the percentage
of flowering plants, the number of pods, first time of ripe pods, the percentage of a ripe crop,
seed purity, and viability test. Based on the results of the study can be concluded that pruned the
plant triggered the growth of alfalfa plants faster. The longer the addition of lighting duration,
the faster the first time of flowering, the first time to mate, the first time the pod matured and
increase the percentage of flowering plants, the number of pods, the percentage of matured
crops. The addition of dolomite levels did not affect generative growth, except in the percentage
of tree plants. The interaction between addition of lighting duration and dolomite fertilizer has
an effect on the percentage of perforated tree plants. The addition of 16-hour lighting duration
was better than 14-hour and 12-hour lighting on all the characteristics in the second regrowth
phase of alfalfa. Seed purity was 61.63%, and seed viability was 13.33%
