Introduction




                  In the context of the professional role of health educator, training is of vital

                  importance.  The health educator has to play the role of trainer for training

                             various categories of health personnel and other development workers.



                                                    Concept of Training


                  Training  is  the  process  of  education  in  which  both  the  mind  and  body  are

                  brought  under  exercise  and  discipline.  It  is  the  act  of  acquiring  necessary

                                    qualification or occupation or feat of physical skill or endurance.



                                                       Types of training

                    Pre-service: involves the preparation in general of any trainee for

                      qualifying for a certain set of professional or specific job oriented roles.

                    Orientation training: refers to a preparation for the specific job to be

                      performed in a particular position.

                    In service training: It is a refresher course given with a view of updating

                      knowledge      and      skills      of      the      workers      in        any  department  or

                      organization.



                   Phases of Training


                    I. Preparation (pre-training) phase.

                    II. Training phase.

                    III. Post-training (follow-up component).
