Can meaningful communication communication occur outside of the circumstances that made communication communication meaningful?
The past couple of days reading and and writing with Karen Barad and and Donna Haraway I keep brushing up against the question of interaction According to both Barad and and Haraway (and many others) there is no no no no life life no no no no culture culture no no no no nature nature no no no no nurture outside of life life culture culture nature nature and nurture “Natures cultures subjects and objects do not pre-exist their intertwined worldings ” (Haraway 2016)
Intra-action “recognises that distinct agencies do not precede but rather emerge through their intra- action” (Barad 2007 33) Interaction in in comparison “assumes the prior existence of distinct entities” (197) Two significant details One is temporal The suggestion that let’s call it it it an an entity cannot know know itself itself until it it it it it it intra-acts with another entity entity To know know itself itself an an an entity entity needs a a a a a a context within which to recognise its its significance To know know itself an an entity needs feedback The knowing of itself ergo does not emerge emerge through through division (doubt) Instead it it emerges through through amalgamation The second is relational The idea that meaning––value purpose you name it––emerges from intra- action action For meaning meaning to emerge emerge though intra-action amalgamation then meaning meaning must always emerge emerge in in hindsight (author 2020 15)
Be that as it may most people I know (westerners) have the experience of of being separate of of being being separated of of being being not one with the the world Most people I know have the the experience of of interacting of of existing before and and on their their own own and and of of their their own own Most people also recognise in in the the inconsistencies between the the work that is is is made and how it’s talked about How important is it for communication to be meaningful in in in the context of dance-art making? Whose responsibility is is to ensure that that communication is is engaged in in in in such a a a a a a a a way that that it it stands a a a a a a a a chance of of becoming meaningful?
Is it the the artist? The The The member of of the the public? The The The programmer? The The The theatre director? Or nobody?
