The concept of a ''creator entity'' has been a popular one,
quite possibly originating with early language. If Homo
erectus had the ability for language, some supernatural
entity would have served as an explanation for thunder. To
the primitive mind, some variation of "God did it" would have
seemed quite plausible and even reasonable since it could be
used to explain almost anything. It was such a useful
explanation that there are about 3000 or so different versions
from various cultures around the world. Unfortunately, there
is not a shred of evidence for any of them. They were however,
testimony to the inquisitiveness and creativity of the human
species.
A recent version involves an entity titled "Intelligent
Designer" that serves the same purpose but attempts to
dissociate itself from religion. Court cases have not seen
that as a valid argument nor has it earned the respect most
of those men and women who have dedicated their lives to
science.
