Striking Comeback

Throughout our history, fashion has
been growing and evolving. Certain
clothes are pulled into pop culture, and
then trends shift, pulling new styles into
the spotlight. Although it may seem
unimportant, fashion statements have
been incredibly important in shaping
our culture in the United States, and
they continue to do so. Although the
2000s have brought it’s own trends,
older fashion statements are making
their way back into current styles.
One of the main time periods sneaking
back into today’s fashion is the 90s.
Classic 90s TV shows and movies like
Clueless, Friends, and Seinfeld
showcase main aspects of this time
period’s fashion, as well as fashion
icons like Kate Moss and rock stars like
Kurt Cobain. There were a lot of
statement trends during this time, from
ripped jeans to Doc Martens, and
although not all of these trends are big
now, many are being reincorporated
into current styles.

Some main 90s clothing articles return-
ing to current fashion are choker
necklaces and scrunchies, as well as
mom jeans and denim jackets. The 80s
are making a slight comeback in fashion
as well. Although the neon, flashy parts
of this time aren’t quite making their
way into current fashion, one important
trend is resurfacing, which is leggings.
They were big in the 80s, especially
colorful and patterned leggings, and are
now making a huge comeback. 13
