    28 Golf Business Canada
Bridging the Generational Gap
Running a golf course is different from many other businesses in the hospitality industry. One element unique to golf was that COVID created a boom, not a bust, as golfers (and would-be golfers) took advantage of getting outside. However, what was the same as other industries was the staffing issues across hospitality. The age-old statement “good help is hard to find” was replaced with “any help is hard to find.”
The boom was welcome to golfing businesses in a sport that was seeing a flattening in popularity, participants and revenues. But, on the flip side, keeping that newfound flow of guests satisfied and coming back was hard when the people-side of the business became a bigger challenge than ever.
INTERNAL CUSTOMERS AND THEIR UNIQUE CHALLENGES Because of the nature of running a course and golf itself, this people- side of things comes with yet another challenging element. There can be as many as five different generations in the workplace who need to be kept happy, retained and productive.
