The Bottom-Line
Power of Golfmax
After nearly 25 years as an NGCOA Canada member, the Squamish
Valley Golf Club (SVGC) has seen consistent, practical value from the
association. While conferences, advocacy, member forums, research
reports, and programs such as Take a Kid to the Course and the Golfer’s
Red Book all have tremendous value, our single biggest benefit has come
through the NGCOA Canada’s Golfmax Purchasing Program.
Operating a golf facility carries substantial costs – from equipment
and turf inputs to payroll, payment processing, and food and beverage.
The fees charged for green fees, practice access, memberships, and dining
simply reflect the true expense of delivering the quality and service
customers expect. In this environment, Golfmax plays a critical role by
helping reduce input costs without compromising standards.
I have, from time to time, likened the golf industry and the costs of
participating in it, to that of the wedding industry. Perhaps not to the
same extent, but for those who have been involved in a wedding, whether
as the happy couple, a member of the bridal party, the ‘mom and dad
bankroll’, or a guest, wasn’t everything wedding related just that little bit
more expensive with the ‘W’ word attached to it? Flowers, cars, cakes…
you name it. At the risk of straying slightly offside with our valued
suppliers and sales representative friends, golf can sometimes feel the
same. We all have very specific equipment and supply needs, much of it
time sensitive, and, in our case, it’s the ‘G’ word that seems to carry a
Whether or not this perception is
entirely accurate, it underscores how
valuable it is to have an organization,
such as the NGCOA Canada,
advocating for operators. Through
group purchasing programs, like
Golfmax, members can access real
savings and rebates that help offset
those higher costs.
Over our 25 years of NGCOA
Canada membership, our Golfmax
usage has steadily increased and we
now see significant savings with very
little effort required on our part.
Our single largest saving comes
from payment processing through
Moneris. Cash is now a small portion
of our business; Visa and MasterCard
dominates. The benefits are clear –
reduced cash handling, lower labour
costs, fewer errors, improved
oversights, and better efficiency –
