Amazon Ads - They Are A Changin’
April of 2021
Whenever I would visit my grandparents as a kid, I would spend hours getting lost among the thousands of books lining the entire second floor. From then on, I knew I was destined to work with authors.
Now, working with over 100 books at the time, my dream of building a business helping authors do what they love has been realized.
But one by one, over the course of just 4 weeks, the cost of my authors’ ads skyrocketed and books we had spent months fine-tuning to a point of strong profitability tanked overnight. I spent hours a day in various Amazon Ads Facebook groups trying to figure out what I had done wrong and how I could fix it but the narrative was the same everywhere I looked: things were changing.
After asking around, I realized this wasn’t the first time this had hap- pened. Over the past 5years, more and more authors have been crowded out by the rising cost of Amazon Ads. This was just another rapid increase in a half-decade long hike in Amazon cost-per-click.
Amazon Advertising is changing for good and I feel it is my responsibil- ity to warn authors of what’s to come and how they can use their books as a foundation for their business.
