Outside of Port Vila a more rustic destination awaits, with most people
living a traditional lifestyle: cooking island food or ‘aelan kakae’, tending
their gardens daily as subsistence agriculture is the dominant economy
in Vanuatu, and swimming at the beach. Port Vila services the domestic
carrier Air Vanuatu which goes to the outer islands of Vanuatu. Popular
destinations such as Tanna and Santo can be reached daily from Port Vila,
while more remote locations can be reached on a less regular basis. The
island is served by Bauerfield International Airport.
ACROPORA SHORE GARDENS: Reaching a maximum depth of 15 meters,
this dive is known to be the most popular dive on Efate Island. Very easy
shore entry leads to a gradual slope. this slope takes you to a beautiful
underwater landscape filled with prolific colorful corals and marine life in
abundance. Very topographical and ideal for underwater photography. All
level divers welcome.
AWESOME REEF: Easy entry leads to shallow waters to where it gradually
starts sloping to a drop off to 60 meters. Excellent depth variation. Despite EAST SHORE: Situated inside TukuTuku Bay. Here you will have a easy shore
the depth, beginner level divers may dive here. Spectacular displays of
marine and coral life all over.
BOTTLE FISH CAVE: A very interesting dive site and a well known site
amongs divers from all over. This site got its name for the large amounts of
scattered Coca Cola bottles to be found here in a depth of 20 meters. Here
you will also find several broken plates, mugs and various other artifacts
that was scattered here by the old tug boats that use to maintain the anti
submarine nets in this area. Very interesting !
CATHEDRAL: The Cathedral is situated on the Edge of the Pango Peninsula
and known to be one of the few spectacular dives in this area. Make an
easy shore entry and slope to water no deeper then 24 meters. Here you
will find yourself in a underwater maze of tunnels, caves, walls and reefs, all
beautifully coral enveloped and teeming with marine life. Very colorful and
ideal for photography.
DEVILS CAVERNS: One of the most beautiful dives on Efate Island. Devils
Caverns can be found on the Pangona Shores and reached via a short boat
ride. This site has it all, from cracks, crevices and walls, to passages, swim
throughs and caverns. All these underwater structures are beautifully coral
decorated and rich in colorful marine life. Although maximum depth here
reaches 40 meters, this site has great variation and most dive time is spend
in waters of 14 - 20 meters deep.
entry leading to a beautiful reef nestled in clear sand and surrounded by
a large array of marine life, encrusted in beautiful corals. Please be careful
when diving here as the coral is very fragile.
GROUPERS GUTERS: Named for its large amounts of inhabiting groupers to
be found here. Drop to a depth of 22 meters and witness these creatures.
Clear waters and low currents makes this site suitable for all level divers.
