Dorothy chose the typeface Theano Didot as a close match to the
D in her name. The prestigious history of the Didot typeface also
had great appeal. First published in 1784 Paris by the famed
Didot family of printers and type producers, its stylistic features
of minimal embellishment, strong contrast, and mathematical
precision, reflect the values of the Age of Enlightenment, the
18th-century people’s revolution that rigorously questioned
established institutions and aristocratic governance.
