Captain Dorsey was a stern man who never let out a chuckle or a mere smile, even after the end of a lucrative voyage. And although he was a man extraordinarily fond of rum, I believed him when he told me what he thought he saw.
Now, whether I believe he indeed saw Leviathan is not a matter to be settled now. So for today, as the miles between my sweet Emma and I grow, I wish to write down the story she’d always begged to hear at each day’s end.
