64 Annual Public Policy Conference
Scheduled for February 23-24
Make your plans now to attend our exciting and informative 64th Annual Public
Policy Conference at the Burbank Airport Courtyard by the Marriott Hotel. The Confer-
ence will be called to order on Friday, February 23, following the CFBPW Winter Board
Meeting and will continue on Saturday, February 24.
Friday afternoon’s program will begin with a review of legislation supported by
CFBPW in 2023 and will include a guest speaker from the Brady Campaign to Prevent
Gun Violence, a special presentation on the gender gap in pay equity and a film, Find-
ing Justice: The Untold Story of Women’s Fight to Win the Vote.
Saturday’s very full agenda will feature our Annual Legislator of the Year award,
which will be presented to State Senator Maria Elena Durazo. (See the Senator’s biog-
raphy in this issue.)
Two other special presentations are scheduled. Fabiola Carrion, Director of Re-
productive and Sexual Health at the National Health Law Program, will discuss our fo-
cus issue. Aria-Vue Daughtery, California Director of Generation Ratify, and Linda Wil-
son are scheduled to provide an ERA update.
The Saturday morning agenda will begin with discussion of the Public Policy
Statement and Focus Issue(s) for 2024-26. Each club should present their recommen-
dations for additions/amendments to their district and the District Public Policy Chairs
will bring them to the Conference. All members can participate in the discussion, but
only the district chairs can vote on the draft statement. The final version of the Focus
Issues and Public Policy Statement will be approved by the membership at the Annual
Meeting in May.
Much of the afternoon program will be devoted to bill screening, led by Sally
McMahon and the Bill Screening Committee: Elaine Aftergut, Shaaron Casey and Elaine
Sierra. They will look at pending legislation and determine support, opposition or no
position.
In addition to the speakers and business of the Conference, There will be a
drawing for several nice prizes and there will be vendors where you can purchase items
for yourself or for gifts.
