63rd ANNUAL CFBPW PUBLIC POLICY
CONFERENCE SCHEDULED FOR
FEBRUARY 25 IN SACRAMENTO
By Rosemary Enzer
Plan now to attend the Annual Public Policy on February 24-25 in Sacramento following the
CFBPW Winter Board meeting. The Public Policy Committee has planned an interesting and
informative conference, featuring outstanding speakers from our own membership, as well as
other organizations.
The Conference will also bring back a tradition from past years, as we honor State Senator Toni
Atkins of San Diego as the CFBPW Legislator of the Year. Senator Atkins is the President Pro
Tempore of the Senate and previously served as Speaker of the Assembly. She is the author of
SCA 10, the Proposition 1 Constitutional Amendment approved by voters in November. She is an
advocate for women, affordable housing, veterans, the environment and the LGBTQ Community.
We are excited to announce that the agenda will feature “Challenges to Our Democracy: How
Women Can Fight Back”, a discussion on our two focus issues, women’s reproductive justice and
voting rights. The invited panel members are from the League of Women Voters, Planned
Parenthood and Common Cause.
We will begin our conference on Friday afternoon with a review of legislation that pertains to
our Public Policy Statement, as our Bill Screening Committee looks at several current bills being
considered by the California Legislature. This will be followed with presentations by the District
Public Policy Chairs.
Our tentative agenda includes highlights from our first 62 Government in Action and Public Poli-
cy Conferences, the L3 Advocacy training module, and an ERA workshop. We also will hear from
newly elected Citrus Heights City Council member Jane Taff, as she describes her campaign ex-
periences.
We encourage all our members to attend and to invite a guest. This is an opportunity to learn
more about all the issues that affect us as working women.
