Our fundraising activities ensure that the school teachers (mostly women) are empow-
ered through having stable paid employment ( SDG 8), rural children have access to free quali-
ty education(SDG4), which enables them to grow into responsible adults employed in quality
jobs which will in turn help to eradicate poverty ( SDG1) in the area. These will enable eco-
nomic growth in the area which will help to eradicate hunger(SDG2). This is a long-term project,

                                             but we are confident
                                             that the outcome will
                                             be a change in the
                                             community as children
                                             are diverted from an
                                             aspiration to have crim-
                                             inal lifestyles into be-
                                             coming employed in
                                             proper jobs or estab-
                                             lishing their own busi-
                                             nesses or partnerships.
          Pupils reused and repurposed recycled
          household waste from cardboard to
make bags, lunch boxes and a model
          car .

Although our involvement has only been in the last
couple of years, we have started seeing fruit.
In the last academic year 2023/24, all the Year 6 pupils passed their Primary 6 exams with
flying colours and with their Primary 6 certificates can now progress to secondary school. The
Primary 6 certificate is very valuable in Nigeria, and one cannot obtain a job without it no matter
what stage of life you have reached.

Many of the secondary school leavers also passed their West African School Certificate ex-
ams (GCSE/ALevel equivalent) and can now progress to higher education if they want to pro-
ceed, which we encourage them to do. An example of educational progress is that of Fejiro, a
student of Jeremi Model Academy School who has obtained a university place to study for a
B.Sc. in Applied Chemistry. He is one of nine siblings of a widowed mother who is a farmer. Edu-
cation for someone like him would not have been possible without the opportunity provided by
our work in Jeremi Model Academy. A young lad like him would have had more inclination to join
cults, grow into a life of crime through cybercrime, kidnapping and oil bunkering or in the case of
girls, prostitution. This is why the international collaboration between BPW UK members, Friends
of Jeremi Model Academy School and Jeremi Model Academy School, Otu-Jeremi in Nigeria is vi-
tal. We hope that this international collaborative work between the three organisations will con-
tinue to yield more success with a ripple effect on leveraging the economic recovery of the Niger-
Delta area of Nigeria. We continue to work towards achieving the Sustainable Development
Goals of eradicating poverty, providing quality education that diverts children from crime ridden
lives into gainful adult employment, empowering women and girls, reducing carbon footprint and
combating climate change and helping to provide peaceful and sustainable societies by using ed-
ucation to combat youth restiveness in the area.
