As some of you may know, I only recently came back to the UK having lived in Cana-
da for 30 years. During that time, I’d joined BPW Canada so as it was their Canada AGM in
August and my good friend was coming in as the new President for Canada, I decided to go
over. My three friends over there, (Jeanne Martinson – President BPW Canada On-line Club;
Shan McEwing – President BPW Canada; Shannon MacNeill – VP Resolutions) knowing that
I’d only ever got as far East as Toronto (I lived on Vancouver Island and travelled quite a bit
through BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario) organised a ‘road trip’ for a few days before
the Canada AGM – we went to the Bay of Fundy (the world’s biggest tidal range and as a
sailor, I really wanted to see that), Peggy’s Cove in Nova Scotia – amazing place and we
went to a fiddlers concert there, Halifax Pier 21
where the immigrants after the war would have
landed, and finally Prince Edward Island (we went on
the ferry there and drove across the Confederation
Bridge 12.9km long! For the four days road trip, we
all shared a large room at the various Holiday Inn
Express hotels but for the convention we had two
rooms, and of course over there, they have two king
size beds per room.
All good fun with a mini ‘wine-tasting’ each

evening – one of the friends, Shan, who is the
new Canada BPW President, used to be a sommelier so we bought a few lots of vino at the
liquor store in Nova Scotia and each evening we did the whole thing, like crackers to cleanse
the palate, taste the wine then again with cheese etc. So much fun and we’re quite the con-
noisseurs now of Nova Scotia wines. The Convention too was really good and worthwhile. On
the last day, they took us on a ‘Lobster Cruise’ at sunset – absolute icing on the cake.

So, that was the Tuesday 13 August getting home (32
hours travelling due to delays/cancellations and rerout-
ing and my sister-in-law Daphne and I had arranged
ages ago to go to see the musical ‘Come from Away’ at
The Royal Theatre in Newcastle on the Thursday. It was
brilliant by the way – about how the community of the
town of Gander, Newfoundland, looked after all the peo-
ple on the planes which had to re-route to their airport
th
when the terrible tragedy of the Twin Towers on 11
September happened and planes were diverted away
from American airspace on the Eastern side of the States. https://www.theatreroyal.co.uk/
