Report from Berkeley Club BPW

The year began with celebration of Berkeley Club’s
th
100 Anniversary. (1922-2022)

The theme chosen was “Uniting and Advocating for Women”.

President Maria DeSousa presented ‘The economic evolution of women.’
The event included Certificate of Recognition by Contra Costa Supervisor, John Gioia,
Proclamation by City of Berkeley, and Recognition by Congresswomen Barbara Lee.
The BPW International President and National and State of California Presidents
provided Forewords.

Chancellor of University of California

Carol Christ, the first woman Chancellor of University of California spoke about
the synergy between University of California, Berkeley and Berkeley BPW.

Woman of the Year Business Woman of the Year Woman of Achievement

Awards were given to: Gwen Marie Austin (Women of the Year), Lila Owens
(Business Women of the Year) and Usha Gongal (Woman of Achievement)
