On Saturday 23 September 2023, 5 BPW members met with members of the
Executive of WAC-UNA at the Welcome Collection, London, to reflect on how they
could improve their Vision, Values and Mission statements.
National President Jo Kinsey, YBPW VP Yasmin Knight, Busola Dakolo, Deanza
Walwyn-Bowrin and Lynne Robinson met with Sally...., Judy..., Lemona Chanda and
Annette Lawson.
Sally introduced the origin and workings of WAC-UNA and some of the chal-
lenges they face. President Jo agreed that BPW faces similar challenges such as at-
tracting younger members and finding funding for members to attend important
meetings such as CSW.
Annette, in addressing the Vision Statement questioned what WAC- UNA's
Unique Selling Point was? A question we all must ask in the myriad of organisations
working towards a more equal society for women.
Personally, I believe that once we can establish our USP, the Values and Mis-
sion/ objectives should become clearer and more specific. The importance of a posi-
tive, more current, media presence was discussed.
We considered each of the topics, but no real alternatives were offered. The di-
alogue was good however, and President Jo and Vice Chair Lemona will connect to
consider the possibility of a joint webinar in the future.
WAC-UNA has a potentially positive intro into the UN but seems to have lost
some of its impact. A conclusion was that the points under review need to be more
linked to the USP and once that was established, perhaps the potential impact would
follow.
