Madam
As an international organisation and NGO advocating for gender equality and women's rights,
we have followed Your Royal Highness’s visits and concerns over the last two years with great
interest. We know that you have a particular concern regarding sexual violence being used as a
weapon of war and have received the Hilarie Rodham Clinton Award from the Georgetown
Institute for Women’s Peace and Security.
We have BPW colleagues in Chernihiv who belong to our international organisation and we felt
you would be interested to know of our work in Ukraine with whom we have kept in touch during
this difficult time whilst also offering friendship and support to those who have sought refuge in
Britain.
Our National President and the Past European Coordinator who now lives in Bulgaria purchased
a van with support from our international organisation and took essential supplies to the border
where it was collected and distributed by our BPW colleagues in Chernihiv.
The van is now being used on a continuing basis to transport much needed supplies into
Ukraine. We have included a link below to our project.
We really appreciate the profile you are giving to women in Afghanistan, Ukraine and other
areas of conflict where women so often bear the brunt of persecution, violence and disruption.
In any subsequent peace talks, yet again women are underrepresented, if at all.
We would like to express our appreciation for all the work you are currently doing and in the
future in raising concerns regarding the effect on women and girls in areas of conflict.
Yours sincerely
Christine A Nendick
