Eclipse Over Texas
By: Anne Marie Johnson
Did you know that a total solar eclipse occurs every eighteen months? Most eclipses
occur over the oceans or in hard to reach locations, like Antarctica. But on Monday, April
th
8 an eclipse occurred over the United States from Texas to Maine. My husband and I
drove to Frisco, Texas, to visit friends and to observe another total eclipse.
Total eclipses of the sun are so awe inspiring. After you experience an eclipse, the first
thing that comes to mind after it is over is, When and where is the next one? You be-
come hooked. For us this was our tenth eclipse trip. A person who has been to ten
eclipses is called an eclipsophile.....or a shadow chaser.
We have been to eclipses in Roundup, Montana (1979 ), Cabo San Lucas (1991), Santa
Catalina Island (1992), Aruba (1998), Munich (1999), south of Puerto Vallarta (2002 ),
St. George, Utah (2012), Salem, Oregon (2017), Richfield, Utah (2023), and now Waxa-
hatchie, Texas (4/8/2024).
